Why German recruiters don’t understand international candidates
When I started helping Indian IT professionals, I believed CV optimisation was the answer.
Today, I see things differently.
The biggest problem is often not the CV itself.
It’s that many talented professionals are simply not prepared for the German hiring process.
Many apply for jobs that don’t really fit their profile.
Many don’t know what German recruiters are actually looking for.
And many try to show everything they have ever done instead of presenting a clear story for one specific role.
I understand why.
In India, broad experience is often seen as a strength. Showing many technologies and many responsibilities can be an advantage.
In Germany, recruiters usually think differently.
They can’t understand everything you have done.
They need to understand one thing:
Why are you the right person for this specific position?
That’s a completely different way of thinking.
German recruiters often don’t understand international candidates.
International candidates often don’t understand German recruiters.
Both sides become frustrated.
This is exactly the gap I try to bridge every day.
I came to Germany from Poland many years ago. I also had to learn how differently people think, communicate and present themselves professionally here.
In many ways, the Polish mentality is actually closer to the Indian mentality than to the German one. That helped me understand why so many highly qualified professionals struggle with the German hiring process.
Today, I try to make that invisible part of the German hiring system easier to understand.
That’s why I no longer believe a better-looking CV is the solution. Understanding the German hiring system is.
